Ok.....I know if I don't write....I'm going to explode!!!
I just got back from Cincinnati. We were there all day. I will NEVER go back there EVER again!!! It was nothing but a waisted trip!!!
Here is how it started; A nurse came into the room that I was in. My mom and dh was there as well to help me to remember and to help describe things. She did the usual questions. Then she checked my vitals. Then she had me take my finger....touch her finger then touch my nose! I did that. Then she had me take my thumb and touch it to my index finger! Ok...I did that! She checked my relfexes....she could only get my right knee to respond!
She left and said that the specialist will be in shortly. Ok, great!
15 minutes later...the specialist comes in and has me do the exact same things!!! What?! Why?! WTH!!! Then proceeds to tell me that yes, my neurologist DID diagnose me with having progressive multiple sclerosis! Yes, I already knew that and we also told her what he was going to have done for me! She said that I'm fine and that I'm having muscle cramps and thats whats giving me MY PAIN!!!!!!! NO SHIT!!!! And thats called fibromyalgia!!!!! DUH! Then she had the nerve to tell me to find a doctor that will prescibe me medicine to help me with my pains!!!!! Really???!!! I AM LIVID!!!
So.....that was my useless day with the "specialist!" Oh boy! I called one of the nurses that comes here to my home to check on me and told her about my day. She couldn't believe it either!!!! I am NOT a dumb woman when it comes to medical!!! I've taken college courses when I was in my 30's! I have a sister that is a nurse and we used to study together, and since I've had epilepsy since I've been 6 months old...I'm pretty used to going to see a doctor and basically already know what to expect! I'm not that stupid! So....I'm going to go back to my neurologist and make sure that this "specialist" didn't test me for MS!!!! OR, is that how they test for it now????!!!!

I would have went off on them. That was a wated trip to tell you that you have something when you already know it. I thought these people were "good"?!?!?

AFTER I cool off, I will try and e-mail you later. This is the exacrt thing I was afraid might happen. Hang in there. Spit and snarl, then let it go. You will need your strength, because there is the right doctor out there for you.

wow, doesn't it make you want to SCREAM!!!!! They don't even understand you took the time out of your life to go there, and then they don't do anything. My doctor told me today if I miss another appt, (I've only missed one) that he will charge me $100.00, and if I miss one after that, he will discharge me from his practice. This is a man who wants me to call him every day with blood sugars, now I ask you why do I need to go see him, when I talk to him every day. Its frustrating, and he doesn't think I'm taking my diabetes seriously, I'm doing everything he says, my body is not responding like he wants it to. I want to scream. Tell you what I will pray for you and sending you a guardian angel your way. Chronic pain is horrible!!!!! Deb

Argh......that pisses me off! I'm also knowledgable in the medical field and that specialist didn't do his job! Sorry you had a wasted day. I would call my insurance company and tell them the dr. didn't do anything and shouldn't be paid. It's ridiculous that these drs. will not RX you some pain meds. You may have to go thru several drs. to find one who will treat you right. Ugh. I feel so bad for you.

A similar thing happened to me once, I had great expectations on a dr. and he just shot me down when he walked in the room and told me he couldn't help me...then charged me. I was devastated. What an arrogant bastard.

I am sorry your appt was such a disappointment! When my mom was tested for MS they did exactly the same thing. Her neurologist made her do all kinds of weird stuff. They also did a spinal tap and saw something there also. I hope you have a good day and do not have to ever see that nut again.

OMG----I am so very sorry that you received no help from that quack.....Hon--I would raise a stink with everyone---anyone having to do with the system....scream, yell talk about getting lawyers and law suit......go crazy on them.....If you do not do it.....then everyone will assume you are getting the help you need....please know I am keeping you in my prayers....you need to find the strength to fight these idiots and have someone help you NOW!!!

Lisa, I am so sorry that your trip to Cincinnati with the specialist was more of the same thing for you. I understand your feelings! Doctors can be disappointing at times, and I don't even think they realize it always. I hope you can find a doctor somehow, somewhere who will treat you more thoroughly. I get a better neurological exam every month when I go see my family doctor for my neck and back & pain problems because of my condition.
A long time ago I once went to the University of Iowa to see this doctor who was suppose to be so great. An Orthopedic Surgeon. He was even the department head. All he did was take an X-ray! Oh, I guess, he did offer me a brace, and gave me some pain pills. But no MRI, or anything. I later went to a Neurosurgeon here is Mason City, and he did MRI's, etc. He also subsequently did my back and neck surgeries. So, I feel I get treated best at home!

Oh lisa...I've been there and it sucks! I'm so sorry you still have to deal with people/drs like this. Unfortuntely Fibromyalgia is still misunderstood and often minimized by even the "best". DO NOT GIVE UP.
Find the good ones and stick with them.

Oh, Lisa, that is so bad. I am sorry you went all the way there just for that! They treated you as if you were just trying to get pain meds for 'other' reasons as some do. Some specialist. This should be reported somehow. I do hope you get a better CNA soon. I was good. So good at it. I was asked for by some who had heard of me. There are a few who REALLY care and will work. I pray you get some answers soon.
