I want to know......

I want to know the differences between your "needs" and "wants." My husband and I had a dicussion about this last night. Does God bless you with your needs or wants, or both? I was brought up by God blessing you with the things that you "need," not "want" to have. Your needs are the everyday bases in your life...not your "wants." Thats what I was taught in church. And...when in God's time as well. Not a specific event or time when you think that you have been blessed by God by "getting" things that you "wanted." Is that truly being blessed by God? Did He do this or does it come from the flesh's money? We were watching a show last night that proved to me that God had truly blessed this family by "giving" them waht they truly "needed." Not "wanted." I was very toughing because they were very needing of what they were blessed with. I know that everyone in this world has a different income/just money to have but what I saw last night made me cry. These people actually used "their" money that they had worked hard for, to "give" and to "donate" to these people for their needs so they didn't have to struggle any longer. It even touched my husband. And thats saying something. Thats when we got into a conversation about others helping others out with their needs. I feel that money is the root of all evil unless you utilize it in the proper way, and not kepp getting the things that you "want." We don't have money to just get what we "want," but we still give to others to help get what they "need." And we struggle. The ramp that is being built for me off of our back deck has been posted poned several times because of helping someone else out besides ouselves. To us...they were in "need" before us. I see it that God had blessed us enough to be able to help and had blessed them as well. I donate to a special orginazation all the time and I donate to our library as well. We also help out others besides our family. It seems to work out when my husband or I have the extra money one week or month...we usually have just enough to help someone that week that is in "need" of something. I feel thats God working through us. We do not give or help someone for their "wants." That doesn't work out that way with our money situation...and I feel that it's God's way of letting us know that it isn't what you "want" but what you "need" that is way more important. I know the ramp will be built in full when God see's it through. When He feels it's time. Not on my time. What makes me sad to see is so many people that think that they are blessed because they have enough money to do and buy themselves what they "want." And say that they are blessed. How so? When they can donate to more charities and others? When I seen this happen on the show I was watching last night....these people gave almost everything they had to help the ones that "needed" the help. It was very touching to actaully see such blessings. :o) They said that they can go without, because they knew they could make the same amount of money back again....and in return, help someone else. :o) Now thats a blessing! :o) It truly amazes me to see and to hear different stories about being blessed with "needs" and "wants." I feel that some might have them confused. If you have all you "need," then help others with their "needs." We do that even though we don't have all we need. I see it that we are a very blessed family! :o) Any thoughts on this?

I agree with what you are saying, times have been very tough for us lately, there have been a few times where I sit and cry and wonder where tomorrows meal is going to come from for my children,  I am not the only one that is having it hard right now, but it always seems to work out, I end up getting just enough that I can get some groceries for myself and still have a little to help out the others that I know. I know that helping the others will only put me back in the same situation sooner than if I didnt help them, but I do not want to see others go with out their needs. I just pray that somehow some way our needs will be met once again. I have been spending my days trying to find a job to help get us out of this situation but so far no luck.  Right now my "wants" are simple, all I "want" is to be able to feel our needs.  People say that God helps those who help themselves, I have been trying to get in a position as to where I can help myself, I am not looking for someething to put me in a position as to where I can buy a new cadilac or anything like that, just a position where I can give my children what they need. I dont think a blessing is driving the dream car that you want and having material objects, but having a car that is stable enough to get you where you need to go and to be able to have the basic material needs so you can make it through day to day life.  I think anything beyond that falls into the greed catagory if you know others that are in need.

Amen! Thats exactly how I think as well. As you know we do the same thing....we go week by week for a check and live off of that and still make it by the skin of our teeth, and still somehow are able to help someone. :o) I feel that God has given me and my family the "know how" to know how to help others in "need" and to donate to the less fortunate. I would never ask God for nothing more but our needs. God does help those who help themselves. And to see that show that we watched last night...and all of the giving and helping others in need and donating was vantastic! Too bad that others don't see it that way. And can still sleep at nights knowing that there are people out there with "needs" that aren't being met. I know I even think about them as well. And I'm one of them. I also agree with what you said about "greed." One of the seven deadly sins as well.

One more thing.....I was told not too long ago that I had too much stuff! So....what did I do? I've donated it to my favorite orginazation....plus I'm still giving things away! I was also told that I should live simple...well....I think I am. I have so little of what I used to have, because of donateing and giving to others in need of what I had to get rid of. That was helping myself as well as helping others. If you have too much of something, then donate or give it to someone that is in need.

I am sure if I sat around and thought about it my wants would be many, as with most of the people in the world, but my wants are not what I need to survive. The greed of our wants is why we have so many homeless people and so many that dont have their hunger satisfied, and their thirst quenched. It is a sad sight to see, their are those who have alot yet it does not seem like enough to them, they never stop to think of others that are not even getting basic needs and instead of helping them just to be able to live another day, they instead get more for themselves.

I really appreciate your understanding of how I feel. I agree with you as well...if I sat around thinking of things that I wanted....and not of the people that could actually use help....then thats selfish and greedy. Just my opinion. Sure...I would "want" a nicer car, but the one I have gets me to where I need to go. Sure, I "want" to have the ramp finished, but....thats also my "need!" I would also like to see help for our home to be handicaped acsseable so I don't have to move out of it and leave my family....but that "need" won't be met in a long time because we don't have the means to do it ouselfves yet....it's going to take awhile...and when it is finished...then I will be able to move back in. Thats my "need." And so is the ramp. I feel that God gives certain people the means to help others to test them. To see how they "help" others. I also feel that if they don't use it wisely, someday it will be taken away and they will have to see what it's like to live like us. My feelings about certain people aren't envy....just don't understand why.
