Trying to be correct....

Is there a definite line in the sand when we cross that line and "offend" someone? If so, where is it? I have gotten a few emails this week "letting" me know how I've offended someone with what I write about in my journal or decide to post in my journal. That's the reason for the graphic below saying, "Was it something I said?" You know, I've actually listened to these "suggestions" about not" writing about my illnesses all the time. That "I'm not my illnesses, I'm me." Really? I'm sorry, but I'm not my illnesses, I just happen to have them. What is J-Land coming to? NO ONE has the right to tell me what I can and can not put or write in my journal! It seems that in our journals you have to be "politically correct," and try not ot be "offensive." I've had this journal for a few years now and I've never in these past few months have ever had so many emails "letting" me know what I've written about "offended" them. Excuse me? I started this journal to log what I am going through with my illnesses and maybe to help others. Is that a bad thing? It seems that when I talk about them...it's not "uplifting" enough or I'm not a "happy" person! What? What is this all coming too? What standard decides if what I put in my journal is "offensive" or "hateful" or "politically incorrect?" I thought it would be me. I do not try to offend anyone. And by me writing about my life is offensive, then don't read. I've gone to all the journals that I read and I always leave a comment....even if I don't agree with what was written, I would never email them to tell them nor in a comment. I feel if you read what I wrote, you could have the common courtesy to do the same. Many people are afraid to speak their minds or share something simply because it might be "offensive" to someone else. Or maybe a joke. Thats sad. The fact is that many well known authors have used wording in "their" books and that some people would probably find to be "offensive, or not "politically correct." But you still read them. Would you write the author and let them know that it offended you after reading the whole book? Is this what this  is coming too? If so...how sad.

"Free speech not only lives, it rocks!" -Oprah Winfrey

"You have not converted a man because you have silenced him." -John Morley

Once again, I will write and post what "I" want to in my own journal like i have done for a few years now. And it's your choice if you want to become so negative and judgmental when you go around reading others journals. Again, sad. I want the old J-Land back!

Don't worry about it! Just write what you want, it's your journal!!!
No one has the write to tell you what they think you should post, ignore them. If they don't like it they can click on the red X at the top of the pg!

the old J Land is dead. Gone. Never in a million yrs would i ever write a public journal again online. The crazies will read.
I pray you always write just what you want but it is awful that you have fear to write what you need due to others. People suck. There are some wonderous, loving souls here and there are some evil pathetic ones too.
i love you always,
lisa

GEEZ!!! Just ignore the people that keep writing to you about YOUR journal. If they don't think it is "a right journal to have", then they don't have to read it. Write what you want and screw what people think. Love ya mom!

Lisa~This is why I have a private journal; I will vent what I need to vent without being judged or criticized. I may loose some readers because you can imagine that with clinical depression my entries are not always uplifting!? Too bad---as others have said, it's my journal and I'll write what I want/think/need!!!  I hope you will too! I'm not in it for a popularity contest. Hugs, Deb ;-)

I think J land isn't very different at all than the rest of the world.  I think we've all (me included) been kidding ourselves that it's a much safer place.   It's just an example of everything else that's out there in the world.   And yes, that is often very sad.
Just keep doing what you're doing Lisa...because it's great!

Darlin' there is absolutely NOTHING offensive about your journal.  You let these nimrods know that if they really want to be offended, they can come over to MY JOURNAL.  I'll deal with 'em!  ;o)
You need crap like this like a whole in the head.  My God, it sounds like they have nothing better to do than being BIG JERKS.  I don't get why they keep coming back if they've got problems with you.
And GOOD FOR YOU for standing up for yourself!  Unless something drastic happened last night while I was asleep, we're still living in THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.  I would suggest they move to North Korea if they're into censorship and are too stupid to censor themselves.  Kim Jong Il will be more than happy to do it for them!

Lisa, it's your words in your journal you are allowed to write whatever you are thining and feeling....if someone doesn't care for something you wrote, they don't have to continue to read it.  Like all of us, not all anyones says is something I would agree about, but it's free speech in our country, they are entitled to write what they feel as does anyone else.  Just ignore it dear....not worth letting it upset you in any way....Arlene (AJ)

Hey girl you keep on writting just like you are if someone has a problem with it oh well. I have knowen you for over half of my life and I have watched as these illness have cahned so many aspects of your life. I have saw what they have done to you and the pain they have put you through, and if writting about it helps you in anyway then you have every right to do so. If the pain and suffering that you go through offends someone then all I can say is they are not a very compassionate person and they would not be the type of people that I would want reading my journal anyway. And all they have to do is click the little x above and stop reading.
love you sweetie, Rhonda

Lisa,
I think you have some pretty paranoid readers. I cannot find anything offensive in what you write at all. You tell your tale of how you're coping with your many illnesses, which makes for uncomfortable reading - that is, if the reader has any inkling of empathy. If they don't like it they should stop reading the journal. In actual fact, you have NOTHING to apologise for. In fact, as far as I'm concerned you should do not even have to head up your main entries with that disclaimer. It's your journal.

You have every right to share whatever thoughts and feelings you feel like sharing.  I hope you will choose to turn the other cheek at such ignorance.  This is YOUR space, no one elses.  Many DO benefit from the information and understanding you provide.  More than that, we benefit from YOU for YOU.

Hugs and Blessings,
Michelle

Hello, I am visiting your journal for the first time.  I look at  journals much like I do television or any other media...if someone does not like what is being broadcast there is a simple remedy, don't watch it.   Do your thing girl, and don't worry about anyone else.

Lisa,
I think I am not involved enough in Jland to feel or should I say reap the ignorance of some writers or readers, but have noticed alot especially lately that alot of the journals I read are going private for the same type of reasons. I truly do not understand it! Continue to write whatever you feel like writing! There is a X on the top of this page that is very easy to use if someone does not like what you are writing about!
It makes no sense, this is YOUR journal and I cannot imagine being told I offended someone from writing in my own space. I am sorry people are offended by things you write! I love reading your journal and will continue to read it ;)
Big Hugs,
Robyn

Wow Lisa!
I am stunned that someone would be offended by your journal.
That is ridiculous.
If they have a problem, they shouldn't read.
Unbelievable.
Take care Hon,
Love,

((((LISA)))) I'm sorry that people are attacking you and what you write in your OWN Personal Journal! Lisa no one has the right to tell you what to say or not to say. Don't let these people get to you or to continue hurting your feelings. Please don't go private, and please keep writing just the way you have been. Your life means something and you should share it in any way you see fit! I enjoy reading your journal and I like you just being you Ü.

Hugs,

I am sorry that anyone would have to say that something you write offends them....as my hubby would say...SCREW THEM .... plain and simple....don't ever give people like that a second thought.....your thoughts and feelings and what you are going through and your life are yours to write about as you see fit....if others do not like it.....then they do not have to read about it....plain and simple...or perhaps they do not understand that concept....hmmmmm!!!!
take care girlfriend!!

Sorry to read about your "love notes" regarding your journal. If only they'd stop a minute to realize that your Journal is for YOU created BY YOU and not the READER. I just want to start a blog where we list all the screen names who sent love notes (hate mail) or leave rude comments. They should be exposed for being the insensitive creeps they are!

I'm catchin up here again.  Block the haters from commenting and if they continually email you, then continually TOS them!  That's harassment.  You can write anything you want.  If they don't like it, there is the big red x in the corner.  You've been harassed for many months now.
Hugs,
D
